Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club v Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club ? Premier Limited Over Tournament, 2012/13 (Group B) ? Match Update ? SL Air Force SC wins by 11 runs
A 4-wicket haul from Pishan Hewage enabled the Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club to clinch an 11-run win, as per the D/L method, over the Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club, in their Group B match during the ongoing Premier Limited Over Tournament, played at the Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club Ground in Colombo, on December 30.
The match kicked off with the Air Force SC winning the toss and choosing to bat first. Bloomfield put forth a concentrated bowling performance, and Upul Indrasiri (10-0-50-3) led the attack, supported by Tharanga Lakshitha, Vishwa Fernando, Dilshan Munaweera, and Chatura Randunu, all of whom picked up one wicket each.
The Air Force SC?s top five batsmen were unable to set up a solid base, and put forth mediocre performances ? Thuppahi Nadeera (6), Gayan Prasanga (7), Yashodha Lanka (0), Achira Eranga (11), and Rajitha Ratnayake (0) were all lacklustre, and by the 15th over, the team was at 49 for 5.
However, coming in at number six, skipper Raju Gayashan top-scored for the team with 83, and was joined by Ajith Kumara (23) for a 54-run partnership for the 6th wicket. Kumara and Pishan Hewage (2) were eventually dismissed but Gayashan went on to set up another 54-run partnership ? this time with Akila Isanka (31).
Their combined efforts got the team up to 164, after which both batsmen were sent back to the pavilion. By the end of 50 overs, with Tharanga Ravin (11*) and Lasanda Rukmal (2*) at the crease, the Air Force SC posted a final total of 200, at the expense of 9 wickets.
While the total was not particularly daunting, the team managed an effective defence of their total, courtesy a solid performance from Pishan Hewage (9-2-19-4), who was aided in his efforts by Achira Eranga (8-0-29-2).
Daminda Ranaweera (51), Primosh Perera (33), Dilshan Munaweera (28), and skipper Sanjaya Gangodawila (28) had all put in decent efforts to get Bloomfield on the right track, and the team had managed to reach 171 for 8 off 46 overs. However, at this point the match was brought to an end owing to bad light, and as per D/L calculations, the target would have been 183 runs from 46 overs. As a result, Bloomfield fell short, and the SL Air Force SC went on to claim an 11-run victory.
